Industry Statements
Shown below, a number of organisations have chosen to provide a specific statement describing their achievements, plans and aspirations for contactless rollout in the UK.
Barclays 16/04/10
Barclaycard and Barclays are fully committed to the roll out of contactless technology having launched the UK’s first contactless card, Barclaycard OnePulse, in September 2007, which was also the same month in which we enabled the first retailer to accept a contactless payment. By April 2010 there were over six million contactless Barclays debit and credit cards in issue with the majority of all cards issued as contactless as standard, and we expect all Barclays debit cards in circulation to be contactless by 2012. As well as issuing cards we have enabled tens of thousands of retail outlets to accept contactless as a method of payment.

RBS has invested significant monies in preparing its card acquiring and issuing platforms for the national rollout of Contactless payment cards. We continue to invest in our systems and products to handle the anticipated significant increase in transaction volumes resulting from the Contactless rollout.
